Hamsterly Forest - a 5000 acre woodland open all year

Hamsterley Forest is a great place to relax and see the wonders of nature. Follow the nature trails or for the more energetic hire a bicycle and follow one of the cycle paths.

Barnard Castle - Picturesque ruined castle

Perched high on the edge of a steep bank overlooking the River Tees, Barnard Castle remains an imposing sight. It was damaged when, in 1630 when Sir Henry used its stone to rebuild Raby Castle.

Timothy Hackworth Musuem - Transport Musuem

Not just a museum, the Timothy Hackworth Museum lets you experience first hand the revolution of transport dating from the early 1800's and the part that Hackworth and Shildon played in it.

Binchester Roman Fort - Historical Remains

Binchester was the largest Roman fort in County Durham. A small part has been excavated and is open to view. Most of the fort and the remains of the nearby civilian settlement still lie buried.

Durham Cathedral & Castle - 900 Years Of History

Few buildings in England can boast a longer history of continuous occupation than Durham Castle. Founded soon after the Norman Conquest, the Castle has been rebuilt, extended and adapted.

Auckland Castle - Bishopric's Residence

The historic building, with its magnificent Chapel, Throne Room and Long Dining Room, is already the administrative centre for the Diocese, and a notable tourist attraction.
